Alexandria Extrusion Company’s new Balance Intensive Cooling System (BICS) allows immediate quench of an aluminum extrusion profile, preserving the extrusion profile characteristics, mechanical properties and tolerances while causing a minimal variance of cosmetic appearance from one cycle to the next. These benefits are achieved utilizing a quenching system able to produce a 900-gallon per minute water spray and a 175 horsepower per 16 feet of forced air-cooling. Each aluminum extrusion profile is evaluated, programmed and process-repeated through advanced computer systems technology offered by Cometal Engineering and customized to Alexandria Extrusion Company’s manufacturing specifications.
Other stages of the equipment’s capabilities include a Dual Puller-Handling System, which maintains steady pull force on the extrusion, relying on the complexity and weight of the extrusion profile and ram speeds of the aluminum extrusion press. The Dual Puller-Handling System reduces dead cycle time from billet to billet and improves the straightness of product being extruded, to minimize scrap and improve overall yield throughout the manufacturing floor.
